Putin considers support for families a "clear priority"

This was stated by the President of Russia at a meeting of the Council for the Implementation of State Demographic and Family Policy.

According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, supporting families and creating conditions for more children to be born in Russia is "the most important cross-cutting area of all our national projects and strategic development plans," according to TASS.
"It affects almost all spheres of life, everything that is necessary and meaningful for our people. This is an unequivocal priority, since we are talking about the future of our country," the head of state stressed.

The President noted that in order to solve demographic problems, it is necessary to consolidate the efforts of the state, business, civil society, traditional religions and the media. He also expressed the hope that the council, which includes representatives of various levels of government and community groups, would come up with concrete proposals to improve the effectiveness of demographic policy.
In addition, Vladimir Putin outlined what he believes to be the key response to the demographic challenge. According to the President, the only way to address the demographic challenge is to increase the number of all indigenous peoples in Russia.

The President emphasized that the decision to have children should be a private matter for each family, and any form of pressure should be avoided in this area. Families should be confident that having children will improve their lives.

Regarding support measures, the President said that the government is trying to preserve all the preferential mortgage instruments, which are mainly aimed at families with children. At the same time, he pointed out that it is necessary to think about improving the maternity capital, but it should not be "spent on secondary things."
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, also speaking at a meeting of the Council for the Implementation of State Demographic and Family Policy, said that the Russian government plans to modernize the maternity capital program with a focus on supporting large families. The main focus of the possible modernization is to support large families.

In addition, Golikova said that a register for specific diseases will be launched in Russia on March 1, 2026. This register will include data on patients with 12 types of diseases, such as diabetes, cancer, and behavioral disorders. In addition, it will contain information about all pregnant women, as well as data on the condition of newborn children. The register will be maintained electronically by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation on the basis of the Unified State Health Information System.
